I loved exploring the blues in this seascape, from the pale sky along the distant horizon to the richer colour overhead, then carrying those shades into the water below. Rolling waves and white foam bring movement to the scene as a seagull sweeps into the foreground.
Painting the shadows beneath its wings and across its body was a particular pleasure. There’s so much colour to discover in white feathers, and those shaded details helped me capture the bird in flight. It’s a painting that brings back the feeling of sea air, open skies and watching gulls above the waves.
