I painted these irises entirely with a palette knife, letting the paint build into wonderfully textured petals and leaves. Some flowers are open and showing off their rich blues and purples, while others are still waiting in bud. I love the movement and looseness of this piece—it feels like catching the garden right in the middle of its grandest moment.
