Kookaburras are such familiar visitors around my property, yet I still find myself stopping to look at the detail in their feathers. In this landscape painting, I kept the background in warm, earthy tones so the bird could hold the focus.
I especially loved painting the flashes of blue across its wing. They’re small against all those soft browns and creams, but they make the whole bird come alive. Perched on its branch, this one has a lovely calm presence.
