A Surprising Artist

I had been told in year 11 to take up Science by my Art Teacher. To be honest, it was a long time ago, and I was terrible and more interested in Maths anyway, but still. I always thought I couldn’t draw or paint. I was as surprised as everyone to be come an artist.

It was the winter of 2018 here in Compton in our newly purchased house and patch of heaven. Never before has it rained so much and drizzled, and showered and blown a gale. I’ve not experienced dismal weather like this before even though my previous home was at Apsley - Western Victoria, which is only around 1 hour north of here. That one hour north must make a huge difference. Plus we are only 20 mins from the coast. Whichever way you look at it, I was stuck inside. Bored. Normally gardening. Now inside and bored.

The kids bought out their watercolour paints (the cheapest fluorescent colours) and out of sheer desperation, painted a print out of a wattle branch.

That was fun! What else?

It’s like a light switch went off and I discovered that I adore painting. I studied, watched YouTube Videos until I learnt new things, tried them out and somehow all the years of thinking I was a Maths and Science girl turned into, actually I think I’m quite artistic.

If you think about it, all this time doing garden design, cooking, plating food attractively, decorating my home. All of these things all made my heart sing and I said goodbye to the old thought that I couldn’t paint.

Now I’m an artist and have sold paintings all around Australia. I’ve painted numerous commissions and it’s such a wonderful thing to do when it’s raining outside or blowing a gale, or showering….. you get the point!

I love Acrylics, Watercolour and Oils. It’s not surprising as I’m usually multipassionate about whatever I do. I will never look at clouds the same again! They aren’t white at all!
